Wheelis Knives: Joe and Alaina Wheelis

1/31/2019

In the second installment of 'Giving Thanks to a Community', I would like to introduce you to my friends Joe and Alaina Wheelis and their peerless, hand-crafted knife company, Wheelis Knives.

I met Joe Wheelis in Murphy, North Carolina at the Fall 2012 Overland Rally event held at Crawford's Campground. Since Joe is the kind of guy that has never met a stranger (a result of his service as a Marine, maybe?), it was quite easy to jump into a conversation about four wheel drives and motorcycles that is still going six years later. At the event, I recall Joe telling me about a woman he recently met, and who would later become his wife, Alaina. Multi-talented and perpetually convivial, Alaina is just as comfortable acting in theatre productions as she is at assembling professional, leather sheaths. They make quite the team! Joe and Alaina have developed a remarkable brand in Wheelis Knives. Like many of you, I've owned many knives of varying quality and durability and I can say, without reservation, the knife I purchased from Joe is simply the finest I have ever owned; it's a work of functional art that will be a family heirloom for generations to come. These premium, handmade knives are built entirely by Joe and Alaina using only high quality materials. From selecting, shaping and heat treating the finest steel for the specific blade purpose, to the custom handle scaling, to constructing and assembling custom leather and Kydex sheaths, Wheelis Knives are truly built to 'last a couple lifetimes worth of use'. I'm grateful for the friendship with Joe and Alaina and for the opportunity to proudly introduce my fellow Georgia Overlanders to Wheelis Knives. To keep up to date with the latest at Wheelis Knives, follow them on Instagram at Wheelis_Knives.

Cheers,
David
